Pasveer defends Depay and Weghorst as Slot enters coaching frame

Pasveer: 'Nobody works harder than Depay and Weghorst'

Remko Pasveer is tired of the criticism. The 42-year-old former Oranje goalkeeper went to bat for Memphis Depay and Wout Weghorst, and he did not hold back. "There is almost nobody who works harder," Pasveer said (1). He sees two players who give everything for the shirt and get far too little credit for it. Coming from a veteran with zero reason to sugarcoat anything, it lands.

Van Bronckhorst wants Arne Slot for the Oranje job

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has put a name forward. The Feyenoord manager believes Arne Slot is the right man to succeed Ronald Koeman as head coach of the national team (2). Feyenoord beat Club Brugge 3–1 in a friendly, and Van Bronckhorst used the moment to go public with his backing. Slot's high-intensity, front-foot style is exactly what a squad accused of laziness needs.

Oranje ran the least, and the numbers are brutal

A World Cup statistic that stings. Your team covered fewer kilometers per match than anyone else at the tournament. Anco Jansen did not mince words: "Incredibly sad, simply unacceptable" (6). After a round-of-16 exit to Morocco, this is the kind of detail that makes the whole campaign feel even worse. A squad with talent cannot afford to be bottom of the running charts.

Tom Saintfiet throws his hat in the ring

An unexpected application landed on the KNVB's desk. Tom Saintfiet, currently managing Mali, has publicly declared his interest in the Oranje job (4). He brings a quirky selling point: a 100 percent record in penalty shootouts. Whether that gets him in the door is another question, but he wants the role and he is not being shy about it.

Spain Under-19s take the title Oranje held

Spain Under-19 beat Germany 2–0 in the European Championship final on Sunday. They succeed your team as champions (5). A small reminder that the pipeline at youth level exists, even while the senior side tries to find its footing again.

Timber reacts to Bellingham show

Jurriën Timber checked in after England beat Norway 1–2. The Oranje defender posted on social media about Jude Bellingham's performance, clearly impressed by what he saw (3). A small note, but Timber is one of the faces of the next Oranje cycle, and fans always track what their players are up to.

Another Oranje player drops a track

The recording studio is getting crowded. Another Netherlands international has released a song, following in the footsteps of Memphis Depay and Noa Lang (7). No word on who yet, but the trend is established. Footballers with a side career in music is now very much an Oranje thing.
