Egypt too sharp in Vancouver
Egypt 3–1 New Zealand in your World Cup opener. Mo Salah scored, and Manchester City's Omar Marmoush grabbed a goal and an assist at BC Place (1) (2). The All Whites conceded early and never really found a way back. Vancouver was packed with Egypt fans, and Salah celebrated in the streets afterwards, riding around handing out drinks to supporters (1) (3).
A tough first step
This was the historic first World Cup meeting between an OFC nation and a CAF opponent. For New Zealand, back at the finals after 16 years, the wait for a first-ever World Cup win goes on. The 2010 side drew all three group matches. This squad will have to find something in the games ahead.
