Qatar thrashed 6–0, face FIFA investigation after mass brawl
Canada 6–0 and then it got ugly
Qatar were dismantled 6–0 by Canada on Thursday in their World Cup group stage match, but the result was only half the story (1) (2). A mass confrontation broke out at the full-time whistle, and former FIFA official Keith Hackett did not hold back. "These are unacceptable images to be beaming around the world. FIFA's disciplinary panel cannot ignore or accept what took place," he said (3). FIFA are expected to hand down fines to both federations within days (3).
Madibo red card, Koné breaks leg
Assim Madibo was sent off for a challenge on Canada's Ismaël Koné that left the midfielder with a broken leg (1) (3). The incident fuelled the tension that boiled over after the whistle. Hackett called the images "damaging" and said he expects FIFA to act fast to prevent anything like it happening again (3).
Joselu leaves Qatar for La Liga return
Joselu's time in Qatar is over. The former Spain striker has sealed a return to La Liga with a new club (4). No further details yet on the length of the deal or which side he joins.
