Pape Thiaw out as Senegal coach after World Cup elimination

Senegal have parted ways with head coach Pape Thiaw in the wake of the World Cup elimination, the federation confirmed on Saturday (1). The decision comes just days after Senegal pushed Belgium to the limit in a 3–2 extra-time defeat in the round of 32, a performance that earned respect even from Thibaut Courtois, who called Senegal a tougher opponent than the United States. Thiaw becomes the 15th coach to leave his post following this World Cup. Iliman Ndiaye had spoken of the pain of the exit before turning focus back to Everton. The search for Thiaw's successor begins immediately.
