Spain roll into the World Cup 30 unbeaten

Cucurella back to Spain?

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are the two clubs "best-placed" to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea this summer (1). The Spain left-back could be returning to La Liga, with both clubs circling. Nothing is agreed yet, but it's a story that'll pick up speed once the window opens.

30 unbeaten, de la Fuente stays humble

Spain beat Peru 3–1 on Monday in their final friendly before the World Cup. Pedri and Mikel Oyarzabal found the net, and the result extended Spain's unbeaten run to 30 games (4).

Luis de la Fuente wasn't getting carried away. "Being recognized as a possible favorite guarantees nothing, especially knowing there are other options just as good as ours," he said (5). Peru coach Mano Menezes saw it up close: "Spain are stronger. They have a defined, solid project with consistency. Brazil are still under construction" (4).

Squad fully fit for Cape Verde

Every Spain player is ready for the World Cup opener. "We're satisfied with everything we've done. The players are in good shape; there haven't been any injuries," de la Fuente confirmed after the Peru win (2).

Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal were held out of the Peru friendly as a precaution. Both are expected to be available when Spain face Cape Verde to start their tournament.

Fan reactions

Fans can't stop talking about Oyarzabal's form. One post doing the rounds on Reddit flags that he has 12 goals and 6 assists in his last 11 Spain appearances, plus two shots off the woodwork and a penalty won. The old "no proper striker" narrative is fading fast. Read the discussion.
