Norway through and Sweden's knockout path takes shape

A Nordic derby in the round of 16? Norway are through

Norway have booked their spot in the knockout stage. Patrick Berg did not hide what he wants next: "It would obviously be fantastic," he said about the prospect of facing Sweden in the round of 16 (3). Your team are not there yet. First, Japan. But the bracket is taking shape. France beat Iraq 3–0 and qualified, and France vs Norway on Friday will clarify Sweden's potential path (7).

Japan's plan: isolate Isak and Gyökeres

Shōgo Taniguchi laid it out plainly. "If we can isolate Isak and Gyökeres, we can push Sweden back," the Japan centre-back said ahead of the group finale (2). Japan are reportedly considering resting several starters, which would open the door. Sweden come in reeling from a 5–1 collapse against the Netherlands, and the Japanese press have flagged Gyökeres as the danger man, noting a sharpness they attribute to what one outlet called a "girlfriend effect" (2).

Ullevi ruled out for a potential home knockout match

Any hope of a round of 16 match at Ullevi is gone. Got Events CEO Lotta Nibell told GP it was "obviously very sad" that Sweden cannot host a knockout game there (1). The home crowd will have to travel if your team advance.

Ayari on United's radar during the World Cup

Yasin Ayari is being watched. Manchester United and other top clubs are tracking the Brighton midfielder as his World Cup campaign unfolds (4). No bid yet, but the attention is real.
