Sweden out of the World Cup, France roll 3–0

Viktor Gyökeres took an elbow to the face during the match and said afterwards: "I got an elbow in the face" (1). No penalty, no card. Gustaf Lagerbielke also started in a backline that simply could not contain France's front three.

Mbappé's message, and Elanga's class

Mbappé kept it blunt after the final whistle: "On arrive méchants", roughly, we're coming with menace (7). But he also pulled Anthony Elanga aside after the match.

"He said I should be proud of myself and good luck for next season," Elanga said. "That was nice" (6). Small gesture, but it landed.

Zlatan called France's attack 'frightening'

Even Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not hide his admiration. Watching France dismantle Sweden, he described their attack, Olise leading the praise, as "effrayant," which means frightening (15).

The international press piled on too: one outlet called France's superiority "obscene" (16). Hard to argue after that performance.

Lucas Digne was subbed off early after a misunderstanding with the coaching staff, the bench thought he was injured, signaled for Théo Hernandez, and Digne walked off looking confused (18). Did not matter. France still cruised.
