Manzambi double powers Switzerland past Bosnia 4–1 at the World Cup

Manzambi brace sends Switzerland past Bosnia 4–1

Johan Manzambi scored twice and Switzerland are alive in Group B. The Freiburg forward bagged a brace in a 4–1 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina at the World Cup on Saturday, a result that washes away some of the frustration from the opening draw against Qatar (1).

Manzambi kept his feet on the ground afterwards. "I'm still in Freiburg. I'm focused on the World Cup. I don't know what I'll be doing next season" (1).

Muller tells Bayern: watch Manzambi

Thomas Muller went public. Working as a pundit for MagentaTV, the Bayern legend said his former club should be tracking the Swiss forward: "For me, he is someone, and now we can make a headline: that FC Bayern should also look at" (1).

No contact yet. But a public endorsement from Muller, on German television, during a World Cup, is as loud as a signal gets.

Fan reactions

A 48-team World Cup is winning people over. On Reddit, fans pointed to Switzerland–Bosnia as one of the matchups that would not have existed under the old 32-team format, alongside Cape Verde–Spain and Congo–Portugal. Bosnian supporters turned up in numbers at SoFi Stadium, and one Swiss fan summed up the mood: the expanded tournament is producing fixtures that feel worth the ticket. Full thread
