Iran visa delay stirs World Cup controversy for US
Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei has accused the United States of failing to respect "ethical and human considerations" after visa delays prevented his support staff from arriving in Mexico until Sunday, just days before the World Cup kicks off. "We should have been here last week because a 12-hour time difference needs two weeks of adjusting," Ghalenoei told reporters, adding that the treatment was "not the case" for other nations (1). The row places the US, as tournament co-host, at the center of a diplomatic storm before a ball has even been kicked.
