Mbappé and Dembélé two goals from World Cup duo record
Mbappé and Dembélé chase history
France are into the semi-finals. Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé are two goals away from becoming the highest-scoring duo in World Cup history (1). The record belongs to Brazil legends Ronaldo and Rivaldo. Other duos on that list: Hungary's Sándor Kocsis and Ferenc Puskás, plus France's own Just Fontaine and Raymond Kopa. Their semi-final opponent is Spain on Tuesday 14 July at 21:00 (7).
Yamal: France fear Spain
Lamine Yamal did not hold back. "I think the French fear us. We knocked them out at the Euros," he said ahead of Tuesday's semi-final (7). Spain coach Luis de la Fuente piled on: "We are the only ones who have beaten them twice" (4). Spanish fans share the confidence, one telling RMC Sport: "Sorry Mbappé but we're going to win" (10).
Switzerland ready for Argentina test
Argentina face Switzerland in the quarter-finals Saturday. Swiss coach Murat Yakin addressed the refereeing noise around Argentina's previous match against Egypt. "I believe games are generally fair. Nowadays you can control everything with technology and VAR," Yakin said. But he added an edge: "Argentina have a tough style, they always show their cunning. They play with a lot of passion, and if you're not firm it's hard to beat them" (2). Yakin made clear complaints belong on the pitch, not after the whistle: "You don't resolve things with words after the game, you do it during the 90 minutes by scoring goals. Complaining afterwards makes no sense" (2).
England–Norway in Miami
England and Norway meet in the quarter-finals at Miami Stadium (6). England have released a full highlights reel of their tournament goals ahead of the match (6). Thomas Tuchel's side face a Norway team built around their star forwards (5).
Lehmann slams Neuer after Germany exit
Germany are out, and former national goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is not holding back. He singled out Manuel Neuer's defending. "The secret, if you want success, is defending," Lehmann said. "He never learned that" (9). Germany fell to Paraguay earlier in the tournament.
